Verla update

Verla's Surgery went well, lasted just under 4 hours. She was in quite a bit of pain, morphine didn't touch it, so they were going to try valum. She will be in ICU for a few days, then the recovery part of the hospital for a few days.

Wow - here it is Sat. night already. This is the 1st chance I've had to check out your blog. It's 8:15 - Aaron went to get some take-out Verla wanted, the kids are watching a movie upstairs with Verla, Gracie is asleep and I still have to put supper away, fold a batch of wash and do the dishes. And run to the store for a few things if Aaron doesn't get them!!

The Morphin started working for Verla - she was getting it every hour Monday and Tuesday. Then Wed. when they were going to move her out of ICU they didn't have any rooms so they sent them home. I was concerned, but she has been doing ok. She was saying that her pain meds weren't working, but that's because she wasn't taking them like she should and we have to make sure she gets them every 3-4 hrs. She takes 2 oxycontin everytime. Verla has a bout a 3 inch incision at the back top part of her neck up into her head with about 20-25 stitches, I didn't count them. The part they shaved is about 2 inchs wide and up above the incision.

She is making progress, slow but sure. she makes the walk downstairs about once a day, moving very slowly. The kids have to be careful around her and she can't hold Gracie unless she's asleep so as not to jar her neck,in any way as it makes the pain worse, then she gets sick to her stomach.

Verlas mom, gma bennett and me got the house mostly unpacked, but it will probably take Verla a couple of months to get it the way she wants it after she recovers!!

I am learning my way around town - I can get Robert to school and Tyler to pre-school. The others are in a carpool.

Thank goodness the ward has meals coming in every day for 3 weeks!! It has been such a blessing. We are barely keeping up with the kids, wash, dishes etc. without fixing dinner.

Please know we are thinking and praying for you and Nic. Just remember the support you have with all the family and friends, and yes, try to relax, take a deep breath and tell yourself everything will be ok.

Thanks for thinking of us.

Forgot to mention they drained the syst, then re-routed it(?) so the fluid was re-routed. There is a possibility the fluid will rebuild again over time - if it does they will have to go in again and put in a shunt. The syst was on the cerebellum. I keep forgetting to check out where the cerebellum is on the head on the net.
