Retirement cake

This cake started out from the Wilton Lamb pan.
Add some fondant ears & a tail...
Some fur and a collar...

And my cake looks like a cat. Too bad I was trying to make a dog.
Now fun with making flowers.
I had my Friend Becky come & help shave down my cat so it would look like a dog. Where is Kim when you need her, she would have gotten it right the first time. She is awesome at cake carving.

End product, a chocolate dog cake. Happy retirement Sandy, this was a really fun cake to work on.

Cake

It's been a while since I have had a chance to sit down and make a cake. This was for the birthday of a co-worker. I enjoyed it and realised how much I miss making a cake that gives me a little (not too much) challenge and where I also get to be a little creative. I was also able to try a combination of recipes that I hadn't used together. It was a lemon cake with raspberry filling & cream cheese frosting on top, & a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting on the bottom.

I am very excited for my next cake. It will be for a 60th wedding anniversery. I've got it all made up in my head & hope it comes out close to my vision. For now it will be a 3 layer cake. If more people RSVP to the event, it will turn into a 4 level.

cake class, roses

We were learning different types of fondant roses.
Who knew there were so many different ways to make a rose.

They turned out pretty cool

Cassidy was very excited to know that we were going toeat this cake.

After we took the flowers off, there was a little bit of color staining. If you look really close, it looks like a face.

Kims Cake

At least let me explain myself.......
I tried to make something different for Kim for her birthday. I googled abnormal cakes. I came across a few that were miss-sized on purpose. On google, they looked really cool. I also tried 2 new frosting recipes. The pink is a white chocolate tinted pick, the other is a marshmallow chocolate. While they both tasted good, neither of them decorated too well. Runny, not firm. Bummer, well it was too late to fix that. The top is a technique I have never tried before. Pattern dusting. It turned out pretty good for my first time.
Moral of the story, never try 3 new things at once.- I could have gotten away with 1- but not 3. Oh well, the cake was good.

Happy Birthday Kim.

Latest cake

On Friday, Kim and I both had cakes to work on. Usually when this happens, we work on them together. They were both for our nieces. I have a picture of the paper plates I was trying to match the cake up with. The orange cake was for my niece's first birthday, that is the one she got to mash. Kim and I got new sample frosting and filling to try, and I must say so far so good!

Cakes

Ryder & Lenny had a surprise party on Saturday, and I was lucky enough to make the cake! No, no sarcasm, I offered to. I haven't made any cakes for a while, and was looking forward to it.

I made little dance silhouettes out of frosting, a challenge for me. 9 dance positions for her 9th birthday.

I made little dancers out of fondant- I wanted to put faces and hair on them, but time was of the essence.

Ryders I was most proud of, a baseball diamond. No problems here. ahhh, nothing like a fine finished product.

So.... I got to the party, dropped the kids off to park elsewhere. Trent took in the baseball cake. Me, I grabbed the gift's & the dancer cake..oops, oohhh. %&!$# ... It was salvageable, I fumbled with it in my car & it bumped the front seat. Grrrr. the positive, I didn't spend time on the faces- would have made it even harder for me to see it damaged. Really it was a corner of the cake-- yes I know it is a round cake, but still, if you were to divide it into 4ths, 1/4th of it was damaged. I felt bad, but at least there was still cake. Had I dropped it on the road, I would have had an 8 year old moment, and cried about it. Instead I took a deep breath, & took my walk of shame to the house, shoulders sunk, you'd think I was about to be grounded for lying to my parents the way I felt. Then the kids didn't make much notice of it, & were calling who got to eat what dancer.-- Okay, not so bad then. & Plenty of cake. Didn't miss the scuffed part.

Ice Cream Cakes

Anyone wanting an Ice cream cake for Valentines Day, get your order in now!-- Of course, I can do a regular cake as well. I like to layer mine like this.

Bad picture I know. It goes, cake, ice cream, cake.
I usually frost with a whip cream frosting & most decorations are done with regular frosting.

For those who are healthier than me, I can do vanilla cakes with sherbet or frozen yogurt instead of ice cream. & use a whip cream with less sugar or decorate with fruit.

Cake Flowers

What did I do Monday & Tuesday afternoons you ask......

Making cake flowers. I haven't made them since class, I had such fun making then. I am glad I remembered how. I stole the cake picture from Kim's blog. Stockton had had enough & we had to leave before it was put together.

She is so creative! Everything on this cake is edible. EVERYTHING

Trents B-day II

I thought I had a better picture of this cake, but I guess not.

Trent had his second B-day party today, along with other family members celebrating birthdays in December.

Afterward we went to see the Ogden lights

Trents B-day

He got a guitar.... How about that.

Trent's 12th Birthday

While making the cake, his friend Casey was here helping. They made frosting & had powdered sugar blow up on them.. her (Casey's) response-- Now I have a reason to lick myself.
I had to leave the room, too funny.
