Grandma B

Grandma B has been taken off all tubes. She does still have an IV for pain, so that she may go peacefully. She is resting comfortably. Once in a while she will open her eyes and ask for some water. The Doctors have mentioned this process may take a few days. Grandma is ready and has made this decision consciously.

Grandma B

Grandma has taken a turn for the worse. She is having a hard time breathing & is refusing Oxygen. She has also said do not resuscitate.

She is ready to leave her place on earth. She had uncle Kim Give her a blessing to release her. She has chosen not to eat, they have taken out her IV's. She is awake, but doesn't say much.

Joe and Grandma B

Todays update

Joe is doing alright. He's home now and sitting on the couch. He's been able to get up and move to the bathroom. He will need oxygen at night for a little time.

Grandma B came thru the surgery with flying colors, still in a lot of pain tonight. They had her sitting up on the side of the bed for almost 15 min, she could touch her head with her hand and she raised her leg up and down so I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.  They ask her questions and she answers in 1 word or a small phrase.

Funeral Update: Monday night is the viewing and Tuesday will be the funeral. Times are still to be announced and of course I forgot to ask if they were planning on the church for the services. So that is to be announced also. The decision has not been made as to where he will be buried for sure. Guy commented that it possibly will be Ririe but has not been discussed

Updates on Joe: He had broken his femur bone, which required surgery.
3/19 Update from Guy Rinderknecht: Joe Rinderknecht is doing awesome and of course he is doing all he can to get out of that hospital. He was able to walk today with his walker, was in a lot of pain, doc said he needed to take a break and Joe said nope, he was going again. Strong man! Doc also thinks that Joe might have some broken ribs on his(left?) side. Guy said that the bumps and bruises are coming out a lot more and he looks pretty beat up!

3/20 The walk yesterday did him in. He was very low on blood and Guy said he did not have a good color to him and that he was very weak. They were able to give him blood and he has felt much better since then. Still not a solid time or date on coming home.

3/20  Phy. Therapist just came in and said he cannot go home yet. He needs to be more stable on his crutches before he can go. Right now he is relying on the walker. He might also need more blood. Another night in the hospital.

3/21  He will not be able to come home today. His blood count is still low. He is doing better on his crutches though. During the conversation Guy had to get after him for being a little loud. Guy said the nurses are ready to string him up. That's our Joe! He yelled to me in the background it was time to go home. HAHA! They are planning on meeting with the funeral home tomorrow and can hopefully get some of the funeral items lined out. Crossing fingers and toes Joe comes home tomorrow.

Updates on Grandma B: Grandma was taken off the ventilator today, she is able to breath on her own. They are cutting back her medicine to see if she can be a little more coherent. She has had her leg amputated just below her knee. She will be going into another surgery for her leg again.

3/20    She has one more surgery tomorrow on her leg. Then the doctors will tackle the broken clavicle, ribs, pelvis, etc. She said Grandma B is not out of the woods yet with all her injuries. She was able to get her to focus on her face for a moment so hoping Grandma new she was there. Still not 100% sure on a time for a homecoming.

3/20  Grandma B update: she looks better tonight, acknowledged each of us when we came up to her, she managed to say "it itches" and was referring to her stomach. She also rolled her eyes and shook her head side to side as if to say she was disgusted that she is in the hospital again. She tried to talk more but it was hard for her which the nurse said is normal. They did x-rays on both arms earlier today and said no broken bones. Also her white blood count is good, no signs of infection. When we left she was resting peacefully.

3/21  Kathy Valdez says Grandma B update. Of course she's out of surgery, Doc said surgery went well, now it's all about the healing and that she should be out of the hospital in four or five days

FYI- A fund has been set up at the Bank of Commerce for Rinderknechts in Ririe.
